Salary: $27.736 – $33.569 per hour Collective Bargaining Unit: SEIU Local 73 Organization: Health and Hospital Systems Department: Nursing Administration Job Summary: The Staffing Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and evaluating the individual staffing needs of each patient care unit across Cook County Health (CCH). The Coordinator supports established staffing and scheduling patterns to ensure optimum staffing within budgeted levels, promotes quality and consistency of nursing resources, and maintains a professional, courteous manner in all communications. Typical Duties Collaborate with Nurse Managers to develop monthly staff and commercial agency schedules, ensuring optimum staffing in all units per union contractual agreements. Utilize and maintain staffing scheduling software/programs to schedule shifts, monitor staffing levels, input related data, and run periodic analytic staffing reports. Monitor staffing needs and project future staffing levels, ensuring staff availability where needed. Identify modifications necessary to reflect staffing patterns, census, patient needs, and changing health‐care requirements. Determine priority of work and complete assignments by the intended target date. Coordinate vacations and time‐off requests with the Nurse Manager to ensure optimal staffing levels. Maintain a current listing of employee contact numbers. Maintain a quality float pool staff for utilization in all units. Notify appropriate supervisors of short‐staffing situations; contact replacement personnel, Commercial Agency, In‐House Registry, and/or Overtime and modify schedule when required. Maintain records of employees who miss shifts (regular or overtime) and provide monthly reports. Provide monthly reports for hours and division/unit for Commercial Agency, In‐house and Overtime. Act as a liaison between Commercial Registry and Stroger for staffing purposes. Reconcile agency invoices with actual time worked. Attend mandatory in‐services. Uphold CCH mission, goals, and objectives. Maintain confidentiality of work and act accordingly. Perform other duties within the realm of competency as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Associate Arts Degree or High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of two (2) years of staff scheduling experience. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. Experienced in developing and maintaining spreadsheets. Typing speed of at least 25 words per minute with 90% accuracy (typing test administered). Preferred Qualifications Associate Arts Degree. Two (2) years of experience creating and/or modifying complex staffing schedules. One to two (2) years of experience in health facilities staffing or equivalent. Proficiency in other computer applications. Excellent customer service and telephone skills. Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines. Ability to work independently. Ability to multi‐task. Ability to learn quickly. Well organized and detail oriented. Professional and courteous manner. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics Good communication skills and knowledge of health‐care policies, procedures, and protocols. Shows initiative and follows proper lines of authority. Can listen, plan, and problem‐solve to accomplish functions as appropriate to the position. Proficiency in the English language and excellent interpersonal skills. Demonstrates accountability and collaborative practice with coworkers, other disciplines, and departments. Veteran Preference Preference is given to honorably discharged Veterans who have served in the United States Armed Forces for at least six months of continuous service.
